2.30 Girl Talk

3–4 minutes

Isis invited Jackie over to tell her the good news about Roman. She’d been rehearsing it in her head all morning, stomach fluttering every time she imagined Jackie’s reaction. Part of her was dreading it. Jackie could be opinionated, but Isis couldn’t keep this to herself any longer. She wanted her best friend to be excited with her.

She was lighting a candle on her desk when Jackie burst through her bedroom door like a firecracker.

“Babe! I feel like I haven’t seen you in forever!” She squealed and dropped her purse with a thud. “I have news for you but tell me yours first!”

Jackie kissed her cheek dramatically and flopped onto the bed.

Isis smiled and asked, “How are you? How’s the fashion blog and webcamming?”

“Are you trying to divert my attention from what you want to tell me?” Jackie teased.

Isis opened her mouth to speak, but Jackie cut in, eyes narrowing with suspicion. “Let me guess. It has to do with Roman.”

Isis sat with Jackie on the bed, hands on her knees. Jackie watched her closely and when Isis’s cheeks warmed, Jackie’s eyebrows shot up.

“I knew it!” Jackie sat up straighter, suddenly serious. “Isis, what did you do?”

For a split second, Isis panicked… until she caught the unmistakable twinkle in Jackie’s eyes. Jackie was only pretending to be serious.

She made herself relax her shoulders as she said “We got back together.”

Jackie let out a long, dramatic sigh, but she was smiling when she said “I figured. You’ve been moping for ages. I knew you weren’t over him. What did he say? How? When? Tell me everything!”

Isis told her about lunch, about Roman’s apology, about the way he looked at her, and the kiss that felt so right. As she talked, Jackie listened with her chin propped on her hand, nodding and humming.

When Isis finished, Jackie exhaled softly. “Isis… if this is what you want, and if you really trust him, then I’m happy for you.”

The words hit Isis like a warm blanket. She leaned over and hugged Jackie tightly, burying her face in her shoulder. “Oh my god, Jackie, thank you. I’m so relieved!”

Jackie laughed, hugging her back. “You’re relieved? Were you scared to tell me? Or are you just happy to have my blessing or what?”

“All of the above.” Isis giggled, pulling away. “Now it’s your turn! You said you had news too?”

Jackie didn’t answer her though, instead she said softly “Isis, I’m sorry if you feel like you can’t tell me things. I know I can be over-bearing, but I’m working on myself. I don’t want you to ever be nervous to talk to me, okay?”

That was very unexpected, but Isis was glad to hear it. She gave Jackie a look of adoration, letting her see just how much she meant to her, and said “Jacksis forever.”

They hugged again and Jackie pulled away suddenly, looking as if she had just remembered something. “What about Jayson?”

“What about him? We’re friends, there’s nothing else going on.”

Jackie looked at her and made an acknowledging “Hmmph” sound, then said “I guess I thought he liked you, and was hoping you’d like him back. Oh well!”

Isis laughed and said “Okay! It’s your turn, what’s your news?”

Jackie dramatically flipped her hair, saying “Sooooo, I’m not a virgin anymore.”

“Jackie! What?! Austin? Omg, I need details, what was it like? So you guys really are serious?” Isis bombarded Jackie with questions and Jackie was all too happy to share the details.

The girls giggled together on the bed for the next 15 minutes while Jackie satisfied all of Isis’s burning curiosity. Isis still liked Austin. He sounded like a decent guy and if Jackie was happy, then Isis was happy for her.

After that excitement wore off, Jackie asked Isis how her mom’s pregnancy was going. Isis couldn’t help but light up when talking about her future twin siblings.

“Damn, Isis! We both have a lot going on huh?”

They both smiled as they thought about all the changes happening in their lives.

Truth be told, I was a little bit jittery about Jackie finding out about Roman, mainly because I love their friendship and didn’t feel like watching them fight. But Jackie proved me wrong, she is a great friend, and I’m so proud of them both 🌞 Isis for finally finding her voice, and Jackie for being so supportive and caring. Boys come and go, friendship stays 😌 Way to go, girls! 💕

I was a little bit jittery to write this scene! I wanted the girls to have a heart-to-heart and as I was writing it became a good moment for Jackie to show some growth as well.
