2.12 What Happens in Isis’s Room

Roman stared at Isis, amazed at how beautiful she was. He felt like the luckiest guy in the world. He flicked the light switch off and crawled into bed with her. She eagerly pulled him on top of her and kissed him, her hands roaming all over his body. He kissed her back and reveled in the feel of her beneath him. He loved that she was the one initiating things in this moment.

He was turned on, absolutely no doubt about that. But they were both drunk and he knew he shouldn’t let things go too far. But then she sat up and told him to lay down. She straddled him and kissed his neck, his chest, and scooted down to trail kisses down to his stomach.

They had talked about sex before and they were both virgins. Where in the world did she learn this stuff? He moaned when her fingertips teased the band of his sweatpants.

Jackie woke sometime in the middle of the night and had no idea where she was. The room was dark and she was hot underneath the blankets. She pushed them off and rolled over in bed to see Miles sleeping next to her.

Oh, she was at Isis’s house. The last thing she remembered was eating pizza in the kitchen.

What else happened? Did her and Miles? …

Isis knew the drill. When she woke up in the morning she quietly got out of bed so she didn’t wake Roman and beelined it to the medicine cabinet in the bathroom. She grabbed the Ibuprofen bottle and popped one in her mouth, turned on the sink, and bent over to sip water from the faucet. She hated being hungover! She brushed her teeth and went downstairs to get four water bottles from the fridge.

Ugh. There were pizza boxes, crust, and crumbs all over the counters and she remembered Roman spilled a drink in the living room. She had so much cleaning to do but didn’t want to think about that right now.

She went back upstairs and softly knocked on the guest room door. When there was no answer, she tiptoed in and set two water bottles on the nightstand. She also left two Ibuprofens. She was glad to see both Jackie and Miles were clothed. She remembered light-heartedly threatening Miles last night and she kind of meant it.

She knew Roman was different than most boys her age. Over the last year of observing boys and girls at school and at parties, she realized not all men were created equally.

Memories of last night flooded her as she closed the guest room door and walked back to her room. Her heart did a flutter as she looked at Roman sleeping in her bed.

Roman. IN HER BED!

They had fooled around last night, like, a lot. Something took over her and she felt her instincts kick in. She was ready to go all the way but he stopped her eventually, saying he didn’t want their first time to be drunk. She remembered feeling hurt and drunkenly calling him prude.

Thankfully he didn’t take her seriously but just laughed and told her to “shut up and be his little spoon.” Then he snuggled her from behind as her big spoon.

When she talked to Jackie the next day, Jackie told her Miles was mad at her. He tried to have a conversation about her drinking and it didn’t go well. He thought they would be able to get to know each other better and have a romantic evening, but she “ruined it” by getting drunk.

Isis thought that was a little harsh of Miles since they were all drinking, but she also attempted to give her friend some consolation. Miles was a decent guy and it was a good thing he didn’t take advantage of her. It frustrated Isis that Jackie couldn’t see he was a good guy.

Eventually Isis got around to cleaning and thought she had eliminated every sign that her friends had been over.

A few days later though, her mom was sitting at the kitchen table when she came down in the morning. Isis immediately sensed something odd. Her mom should be heading out the door for work. As she foraged in the fridge for breakfast, her mom spoke her name in a tone that was definitely not pleasant. “Isis. Did you have people over while we were gone?”

A slow dread crept from her chest up to her head. She had no idea what to say. She wasn’t used to keeping things from her parents. She wasn’t good at lying. It was so stupid to think she could get away with it!

She shut the fridge and started preparing food on the counter, not breaking her stride even though her heart was pounding. She replied as if she was confused… “What?”

Her mom said sternly “Isis. Look at me right now.”

She turned and looked at her mom, knowing she had been caught.

Isis was grounded. She hadn’t been grounded since she was like 10! They found out when her dad went to take the trash can out to the street. The liquor bottles and multiple pizza boxes were the giveaway.

She sat in her room. No phone and no computer. That sucked, but the worst part was seeing the disappointment in their eyes as they scolded her. Then they started to get sad as a talk about drinking followed. Part of her was regretting everything, but another part of her wouldn’t take it back even if she could.

She was head over heels for Roman and loved their night together. No, she definitely wouldn’t take it back. But being grounded was NOT how she planned on spending the end of the school year.
