Things had gone back to normal. Well, as normal as possible. Freshman year was almost over and Isis hadn’t told a soul what happened. When they met at the cafe, Jackie didn’t bring it up, only apologized profusely for being “a mean bitch” and it was never discussed again. It weighed heavy on her mind, but Jackie was back to her spunky self which made Isis happy.
Jackie had ended things with Braden because he was getting “too clingy” according to her. She was talking to a guy named Miles now, even though Jackie insisted they were NOT boyfriend and girlfriend. Isis didn’t understand why or how she messed around with so many guys without actually dating them.
Things with Roman were more than great. She enjoyed hanging out at his house, going to the arcade, and of course, messing around when they had rare moments alone.
Every time he looked at her with intensity, spoke to her in a low and husky tone, put his hands on her, kissed her… electric currents fluttered through her body. Everything felt so exciting and vivid.

Isis was throwing a little get together at her house because her parents were leaving. Her dad had to travel for a soccer game and they would be gone for the weekend.
Roman, Jackie, and Miles were coming over and Jackie said she was able to sneak two bottles of alcohol from her mom’s cabinet. Isis really liked drinking; it made her anxiety and self-consciousness disappear.
As Isis wandered downstairs for lunch, her dad was taking their luggage to the garage and her mom was writing a to-do list of chores for her.
Her mom said “Isis my dear, please get these chores done while we’re gone. Don’t forget to feed Archimedes. Set the alarm at night. And NOBODY is allowed to come over. Make sure you call or text me to let me know if you go anywhere.”

Isis replied “Oh don’t worry, Archimedes won’t let me forget about him!” She smiled thinking about the beloved family cat. She felt bad about having her friends over but her excitement overruled the guilt.
Her mom got up to wrap her in a ginormous hug and affectionately nuzzled her face into Isis’s hair, something she had been doing since Isis was little.
“Mommmm, I’m getting too old for that you know.” Isis whined. In response, her mom squeezed her tighter and said “You’ll always be my little girl, no matter what. I love you so much.”
Her dad came inside and hugged her next, while saying “I love you hunny, please text your mom so she doesn’t drive me crazy with worry.” They both laughed.
“I love you too dad. Go win your game!”

About an hour after they left, the doorbell rang and Isis sprinted to get it. When she opened the door, Jackie and Miles were standing there. Jackie did a cute little bounce and let out a squeal as she hugged Isis. Isis said hello to Miles (she liked him way better than Braden) and led them into the kitchen. Jackie pulled two bottles of alcohol out of her bag and put them on the counter.

They were chatting in the living room when the doorbell rang about half an hour later, and Jackie teased Isis “Ooooh your loverboy is here!”
Isis rolled her eyes and went to get the door. When she opened it, Roman swept her into a passionate kiss and she decided she had died and gone to heaven.
She led him into the living room, and he gave Miles a fist bump and Jackie a hug.
Isis said gleefully “Okay, who’s ready to get this party started!?” which made Jackie look at her curiously and say “Look who’s sounding more and more like me!”
They all laughed and headed to the kitchen where Isis and Jackie invented a drink they called The Jacksis, then wandered back to the living room and got comfortable on the couch.
“Anybody wanna play play Party Frenzy?!” Isis asked cheerfully.
Miles said, “Whoever loses has to get up to refill our drinks!”
At the same time, Isis and Roman said “Deal!”
“Awwwe come on, I hate video games!” Jackie pouted.
Thirty-five minutes later, Jackie got up to refill their drinks.

After a few rounds Roman asked “When are we getting in the jacuzzi?”
Jackie and Isis jumped up simultaneously to go change and when they came back, the boys went to change.
Outside, the sun was setting and cicadas were humming in the distance. The air was crisp, with a sweet hint of oak on the breeze.
They hopped into the warm water, enjoying the relaxing bubbles, but the alcohol was flowing and soon they were all laughing as they took turns confessing secrets and teasing each other.
It wasn’t long before Jackie and Miles started snuggling on their side of the jacuzzi and Isis was pleased to realize she was NOT blushing for once!

Instead, she caressed Roman’s thigh and he looked at her with heat in his eyes. The laughter and conversation quieted as both couples became enraptured in each other.
Isis leaned over to kiss Roman and he grabbed her waist and pulled her on top of him, without breaking the kiss. His hands went up her back and she ran her fingers through his hair. It felt like electricity was pulsing through Isis! She pressed her body against his and the world around her faded into obscurity.

Unfortunately, Miles chose that moment to announce, “Anybody else hungry? Let’s order food delivery!”
It took them thirty minutes of bantering to decide where to order from and the moon was high in the sky by the time they got out of the jacuzzi and went inside.
Jackie and Miles headed to the guest room and went in to change. Roman followed her to her room and Isis blushed profusely as she realized they were about to change in the same room. Guess her blushing phase wasn’t over after all!
She closed the door behind them and Roman playfully said “Turn around and don’t peek, even though I know you want to.”
She giggled and turned around while he changed, and when it was her turn, she told him to turn around too. She hurriedly stripped off her swimsuit and hoped the pajamas she chose were cute. When she told him she was done, he looked at her and his eyes turned hungry with desire. He grabbed her and kissed her fiercely.

They were about to fall onto the bed when Jackie yelled from the hallway. “Food’s here!”
DAMN those two and their awful timing!
They all scarfed down their pizza voraciously while laughing and giggling about anything and everything.
When they finished, they refilled their drinks and went into the living room. They tried playing video games again, but Jackie passed out, Roman spilled his drink, Isis couldn’t see the TV because she had double vision, and Miles said he was hungry again and got on his phone to look for more food.

Isis decided she was ready for bed and asked “Can I get two muscled men to help me carry my red-headed bestie?” The two of them supported a drunk Jackie up the stairs to the guest room.
Isis was giggly but tried to put on a serious face as she told Miles “Heeeeey. Don’t be a creep. If you take advantage of her I’ll hunt you down!” Miles promised to be a gentleman and closed the door.
When Isis and Roman were in her room she threw herself on the bed, feeling so happy and carefree. She might be seeing double, but she felt like she still had her wits about her. She told Roman to turn off the lights and get into bed.
He grinned and obliged.
