A few days later, Isis was lying in bed watching the morning sun shine gently through the windows. She had been awake for a while but hadn’t gotten out of bed yet. She was dwelling on Roman. Things were okay, but since she had put her foot down about streaming, she knew they weren’t excellent. She felt like they were growing distant, especially since they didn’t have any classes together and he was busy after school with the computer team. There was something else too, but she couldn’t pinpoint it.
She didn’t want to think about that anymore. She threw the blankets off and put on some workout clothes.
Today was the day she signed up for the new streaming service! But first, she would sweat out this anxiety.
“Jackie I did it! I’m sending you my link now, my username is IsisPlays!”
She was on a video call with Jackie, pacing back and forth in her room with anticipation. She used her allowance to buy a video game called The Sims, and for her birthday her parents had gifted her two more video games. Her first live was in a few hours and Jackie promised she would be in the chat keeping things lively.
When they hung up, Isis spent the next hour making sure all her settings were right and testing her laptop camera. With her next allowance she would buy a real webcam that plugged in to the USB port. And eventually, if all went well with streaming, she would get a whole new computer!
Isis turned off her camera and gleefully threw her head back in her chair, smiling at the ceiling. She just finished her first stream! She was super nervous at first, but it didn’t take long before she warmed up. She got into a flow and just had fun talking and laughing as she narrated the game she was playing. She obviously didn’t have a ton of people show up, but she had her first few subscribers and even a fan who already changed their username to IsisFan1. The user JackieLovesIsis was there the whole time, making her laugh.
She was reveling in her giddiness when she thought of Roman. She wanted to call and tell him how it went but since he was being stand-offish, she settled for a text instead.
Isis: Hey hun. Just finished my first stream, I didn’t see you there? Just wanna say goodnight.
Roman: Sorry I couldn’t make it. Glad for you.
She tossed her phone on her desk, annoyed, and got up to brush her teeth and change into pajamas.
